Hey guys,
After listening to the concept album hidden within the game files a couple times, I noticed that there are similarities between some of the elements and actual game soundtracks. I'm still kinda going out on a limb here, but I'm pretty sure that
around 1:09 of "5am est" is a an 8 bar phrase that is extremely reminiscent of the super monkey ball 2 level "Inside the Whale." Although they are obviously different musical gestures (and the length of this phrase is also indicative of a quote, as opposed to a full motif used anywhere else,) they are very similar when it comes to chord progression and synth construction.
The arrangement, melodic elements, and chord progression of "Lilo" are pretty similar to various tracks within the various versions of Animal Crossing, although the writing for those games are obviously not as active as this track. Linsday Lowend's input on this track is evident, considering the similarities of synth construction and melodic lines (especially within the bassline), of to the Prom Night edit she did, but I can't say for certain what is her and what is not. Either way, the track reminds me of mid-day Animal Crossing arrangement.
And finally, the piano hook found at the beginning of "Phase2X" and in the chorus of "e-mode," sound like a pop-ed up version of the Star Power theme from the Mario series. Although the chords exactly the same, and last for twice as long, the melody of that line seems to me like a variation on a retrograde version of the star theme.
So those are the most obvious similarities I found, I would love to hear any other opinions that you guys have. Thanks for reading!
